Come to think of it... Komaeda-san and Tanaka-kun both have that title, but it's different from how I'm used to hearing about it. Like, apparently they went to a whole school full of talented people...? Until I was... trapped in that killing game with the others, I'd never met another Super High School Level.
[ Like hers is earlier, or theirs is earlier, or maybe they're just from similar but distinct worlds. The Director tried explaining this all to him a while ago, and he thinks he's wrapped his head around it... ]
[ Oh god he made a mistake. Though, she has surprised him before by not asking further about other complicated topics. Maybe he won't have to describe this stuff too deeply... Maybe. ]
[Her hand drops from her lips to clutch the front of her shirt, and she leans in more closely, almost pleadingly.]
I-I mean, rescue people from the past, or the future! Does that mean my friends could still be out there?
[It's been half a year already, and she's yet to see any of her friends, or even talk to anyone who's familiar with her ideas of a Super High School Level. She'd been convinced they were dead!
...If it's the past, does that mean Rantaro might still be alive?]
[ That's probably the most accurate way to put it. The Hunger consumed both of their worlds, but they are from very different points in time along their... not quite mutual timeline. ]
[Her fingers grip her shirt more tightly, as if that might ease the sharp, aching pain that's suddenly lodged itself right in the middle of her chest.]
I-I just assumed Tanaka-kun and Komaeda-san were from... from a different version of Japan, b-but... you're saying Aragaki-kun came from your past? Like, you're really sure about that? But you both remember the Hunger coming for your worlds so...

They're... It's like.... [ Sigh. Okay. He can do this. He can... Explain a thing....... ] Each timeline is its own world, I guess. And there may be only a minor difference. Like a different brand of MP3 player was purchased.... Or you named a different composer once...
[For once, she doesn't have a quick response, rocking back speechlessly on her heels. Everything about their time on the moonbase sounds like something out of a sci-fi anime, including the fact that they're on a dang moon, but parallel timelines is something way, way weirder.]
S-So... you're saying that you and Aragaki-kun... he's not the Aragaki-kun you spent time with? And he was friends with a different Arisato-kun?
[She presses her lips tightly together, staring down at her fingers loosely holding the edge of her skirt. So if that's true, then somewhere out there is a killing game that hasn't started yet, a world where Rantaro is still alive. A world where Rantaro never died, even. A world where all of them died, or a world where she couldn't convince everyone she was the culprit and they all died, or--
It's easy to spiral and only think of the bad things. She forcefully shoves those away to dwell on later. Probably in the middle of the night when she can't sleep.
