[She opens her mouth to continue, maybe suggest a song for them, but pauses when he pulls his phone out. She hasn't seen a smartphone around for... it feels like a long time now, and her head tilts as she watches him turn it on.

She stays silent while he selects a track. It's not hard to imagine that it's something important to him, so she rests her hands in her lap and closes her eyes to listen, to really listen. It's a remix, obviously... hadn't Dave said that he'd remixed some of his friend's songs in the past?
The pattern repeats, and she shivers, nodding her head a little in time with the music. Violin, piano, and... it's like what a dj does. It's not her style, but it's still music, something that obviously means a lot to him.
As the final notes fade, she shivers again, opening her eyes and giving Dave a heartfelt smile, tinged with sadness.]
[and just like that, the phone blips off, the battery good and spent. no regrets, though, at least he got to hear John and his sister play again.]
